Zoological Classification
The Ghoul (female: Ghoulah) is a humanoid race who are depicted as evil spirits in Arabian mythology.
They are said to be a desert-dwelling, shapeshifting, race of devils that can assume the guise of an animal and lure unwary people into the desert wastes or another abandoned place to slay and devour them. They are famed for preying on young children, drinking blood, stealing coins, eating the dead, and taking the form of the person that they have most recently eaten.
Ghouls are sometimes confused with zombies, causing them to be mistaken as undead monsters rather than demons.
Trivia
- In Japanese 'ghoul' is pronounced like 'gūru'. Her name is based on this pronounciation, by switching out the u's for a's.
- In Japanese, Gaara literally means "self-loving demon."
- Her name might be a reference to ghala meaning "to seize" from which the word ghūl(ghoul) derives from. Both words stem from a Mesopotamian demon called Gallu.
- In WarCraft, they are commonly seen as Humans being Undead. They are commonly used as lumber gatherers and the vanguard or flooder of any battle they were used.
